Bookkeeping services for small businesses
Your books kept up to date in Xero or QuickBooks, reconciled to the bank and checked by chartered accountants, so you always know where your business stands.
Who we help
- Sole traders and limited companies who would rather run their business than do the books
- Businesses that have fallen behind and need their records brought up to date
- Owners moving off spreadsheets, paper receipts or a box of invoices
- Businesses whose books no longer match the bank
How your bookkeeping works
- 1
Capture
Receipts and bills are photographed or forwarded into your software. No paper to post.
- 2
Categorise
Every transaction is coded to the right account, with VAT treated correctly.
- 3
Reconcile
We match your books to every bank, card and loan account, line by line.
- 4
Review
Your accountant checks the period and flags anything that needs your attention.
You can do the first step yourself and leave the rest to us, or hand over all four. Most clients send receipts as they go and leave the coding and reconciling to us. Either way, a qualified accountant reviews the result.
Signs your books need attention
- You only find out what you owe HMRC when the return is filed
- The balance in your software never matches the bank
- Receipts sit in a drawer until the end of the year
- You cannot say who owes you money without searching your emails
What we do for you
We keep your records current.
Weekly, monthly or quarterly, depending on how busy your business is. Your figures are never more than one period behind.
We reconcile every account.
Bank accounts, credit cards, loans and payment platforms such as PayPal or Stripe are matched to your books, so the balance in your software is the balance in the bank.
We chase what is missing.
If a payment has no receipt or a deposit has no invoice, we ask you while you can still remember what it was.
We track who owes you, and who you owe.
Unpaid sales invoices and supplier bills are kept accurate, so you know who to chase and what is due out.
We catch up what has fallen behind.
Months or years of missing bookkeeping are rebuilt from your bank statements and records, ready for your accounts or tax return.
The records you are required to keep
5 years
Sole traders keep records for at least 5 years after the 31 January filing deadline
6 years
Limited companies keep records for 6 years from the end of the financial year
HMRC can ask to see your records during a check, and missing records can mean disallowed expenses and penalties. Well-kept books also feed straight into your VAT returns, year-end accounts and Self Assessment, so nothing has to be rebuilt at the last minute.
Xero and QuickBooks
Our accountants are Xero Certified Advisors and QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisors. If you already use one, we work in your existing file. If you are starting from scratch, we recommend the software that fits your business, connect your bank feeds, set up your accounts and show you the few things you need to do yourself.
If Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to you, your records also need to meet its rules. See our Making Tax Digital service.
